Credit Card Processing Setup & Gateway Access: Part 2

Credit Card Processing Setup & Gateway Access: Part 2

Recently while working with a client to set up an online event registration system, the term “Gateway” came up in the context of “Who is your Gateway provider?” The long pause said it all.

A “Gateway” is a piece of software that allows you the ability to securely process credit cards over the internet. Popular providers of secure Gateways include Pay Pal, Authorize.net and USA EPay.

Just because you have the ability to process credit cards does not mean you have access to a Gateway. And you cannot have a Gateway without signing up to process credit cards. Check with your Merchant Service provider. If you initially signed up to process credit cards with only a physical device, chances are good you do not have Gateway access tied to your current account.

Once Gateway access is obtained, you may likely require the assistance of someone who is IT or web savvy to assist you with uploading and encoding the Gateway software to your online store or site to ensure your successful ability to process credit cards on your site.
